Asa Chalmer Hughes

September 12, 1922 — June 8, 2014

Asa Chalmer Hughes, 91, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Johnson Mathers Nursing Home. He was born September 12, 1922 in West Liberty to the late Giles Wesley and Lou Denniston Hughes.

Asa lived most of his life in Woodford County. He honorably served as a Medic in the United States Army during WWII and the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He continued his career in the Air Force until he retired as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the VFW in Versailles.

Survivors include; his son, Ronald Lee Hughes of Mt. Sterling; five grandchildren, Robin, Sherry, Stephanie, Angela and Ronald Lee, Jr.; nine great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Ellis, Carl, Estill, Ray, Victor Lee, and Ova Hughes; three sisters, Ruth, Marie and Virginia Hughes.
