Atha Clay Ellis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on July 4, 1941, in Flemingsburg, to the late Samuel and Mary Fawns Gilvin.
Atha was a cherished member of her community and a devoted member of the Mt. Sterling Church of the Nazarene, where she served as the past president of the Senior Adult Ministry and shared her beautiful voice in the choir. Her faith was an integral part of her life and led her to also become a dedicated member of the Sharpsburg Community Church.
Known for her warmth and generosity, Atha enjoyed staying active in her community. She was proud to have been a part of the "Georges Quartet" and enjoyed various hobbies that brought her joy, such as solving Word Search puzzles, thrift shopping, and home decorating. Atha was also known as a talented cook who loved creating meals for her family and friends. Atha adored spending time at Cave Run Lake, watching the boats come and go, and was an enthusiastic fan of UK basketball and the Cincinnati Bengals. However, her greatest love was her family, along with many cherished pets that completed her family circle.
Atha is survived by her daughter, Tina Ellis; son, Donald Ellis and beloved daughter-in-law, Sabrina; grandchildren, Michael Setters, Dalton Ellis, Quinn Faupel, and Eric Griffin; sister, Pat Rader (Dola); nephews, Tim Rader (Jayme), Donald Wade Gilvin, and Todd Rader (Nancy); special niece, Libby Groves (Jody).
In addition to her parents, Atha is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Ellis; brother, Don Gilvin; nephew, Jason Willoughby.
A memorial service will be held to honor Atha's life at the Sharpsburg Community Church on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 2:00PM. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at the church starting at 1:00PM. Pastor James Allen and Pastor Todd Rader will be officiating.
Atha Clay Ellis will be remembered for her loving spirit, vibrant personality, and the countless lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
