Augusta Prater, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on November 17, 1931, to the late Otis and Katie Bailey Prater. Augusta lived a life rich with kindness, creativity, and unwavering faith in God. A lifelong resident of Mt. Sterling, she dedicated her career to serving others, primarily as a Ward Clerk at St. Claire Medical Center and for an impressive 25 years at Maloney's. Her commitment to the well-being of those around her was evident in both her professional and personal life.
A member of the Camargo Church of God and attended the Christian Assembly of God, Augusta's faith was a guiding light in her life. She found joy and purpose in her family, especially in spending precious moments with her beloved grandchildren. A talented cook, avid reader, huge UK sports fan, and watching the Cincinnati Reds. Augusta found happiness in crafting, making beautiful dolls with love and care. Her creativity and passion for nurturing those around her left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Augusta is survived by her children, Alonna Becraft (Frankie), Michael Prater (Sandy), and Alonzo Prater, Jr.; grandchildren, Ricky Skidmore (Martina), Leslie Becraft (Jordan Snedegar), Danny Skidmore (Rick), Lori Reed, Alonzo Jereme Prater (Stephanie), Marty Prater (Adianis), and Linzey Lewis (Justin); 19 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; brother, Otis Prater, Jr. (Charlan), all will carry forward her spirit of love and generosity.
In addition to her late parents, Augusta is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alonzo Prater, Sr.; daughter, Linda Skidmore; grandsons, Frankie Becraft and Brandon Becraft; siblings, Minnie Conley, Norma Boone, Dillard Prater, John Prater, Ray Prater, Gloria Prater, Curtis Prater,and Hack Prater; son-in-law, Fred Skidmore; daughter-in-law, Valerie Prater.
In honor of Augusta's life, funeral services will be Friday, January 9, 2025, at 12:00PM, visitation prior from 11:00AM to 12:00PM, both services at the Christian Assembly of God. Private family committal at Machpelah Cemetery. Pastor Scott Barnes will be officiating.
