Bonnie V. Mills

June 11, 1936 — October 21, 2013

Bonnie V. Lockhart Mills, 77, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday morning, October 21, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington. She was born in Grundy, Virginia on June 11, 1936 to the late Marion Arthur and Cynthia Lourainie Boyd Lockhart.

Bonnie spent her childhood in Virginia before moving to Montgomery County with her family when she was a teenager. She later married and became a loving, devoted mother that dedicated her life to raising her six children. After raising her family, she worked at Annie Walker Nursing Home for many years until her retirement. Bonnie was an exceptional cook and made everyone feel loved through her passion for cooking. She took pleasure in cooking large meals for her family and did so until just recently when her health would no longer allow. Although she enjoyed cooking, her greatest joy was spending time with her family whom she loved unconditionally. Bonnie's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a profound sense of joy and treasure to her up until her last breath. She will be sadly missed and will always be lovingly remembered as mommy and mamaw.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Lewis Mills of Mt. Sterling; four sons, Frank Mills (Billie) of Del Rio, Texas, Gary Mills (Janet) of Jeffersonville, Virgil Mills (Cathy) and Doug Mills both of Mt. Sterling; two daughters, Jeanette Mills Ross (Pastor Wayne) and Debbie Mills both of Mt. Sterling; four brothers, Jim Lockhart of Mt. Sterling, Uris Lockhart (Joyce) of Palm Bay, Florida, Robert Lockhart (Brenda) and Tommy Lockhart both of Hope; four sisters, Maudie Wilson (Bill) of Hyattsville, Maryland, Sarah Helms of Ocean City, Maryland, Brenda Lockhart and Patricia Joyce Amburgey (Charlie) both of Mt. Sterling; ten grandchildren, Brian Mills, Brandon Mills, Janna Mills, Josh Ross, Amanda Jarman, Brittany Ross, Michael Mills, James Mills, Shelly Curtis, and Christa Curtis; thirteen great grandchildren; and special mention, Jackson Mills, great grandson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Marion Arthur Lockhart, Jr. and two sisters, Pearl Crabtree and Victoria Poorman.

Pallbearers: Michael Mills, Brandon Mills, Josh Ross, James Mills, Bobby Webb, and Robbie Lockhart.
