Carolyn Mae Mansfield Conley, born on August 29, 1940, in Mt. Sterling, to the late Robert and Katherine Wood Mansfield, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 86. A devoted member of the Montgomery County community, Carolyn's life was exemplified by her unwavering faith and generous spirit.
She will be remembered fondly as a dedicated and active member of the Gateway Church of God, where she served for many years, taking part in various ministries. One of her cherished contributions was her heartfelt initiative of sending uplifting cards to others, spreading joy and encouragement wherever she could. Carolyn's kindness extended beyond her church community, touching the lives of many in Mt. Sterling and beyond.
In her professional life, Carolyn retired after 27 years at Jockey International, where her reliability and work ethic were held in high regard. However, it was in her role as a wife and mother that she truly shone. She was married to Cordell "Cotton" Conley for 48 wonderful years, a partnership built on love, respect, and mutual support.
A gifted cook, Carolyn was notorious for her delicious peach cobbler and Ale-8 cakes, often blessing her family and friends with her culinary creations. She cherished the simple pleasures of life, including trips to Gatlinburg with her sisters and enjoying quality time with her grandchildren, as well as babysitting her nieces and nephews during their formative years. A passionate UK basketball fan, she delighted in cheering for her team, sharing those moments with loved ones.
Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband, Cordell "Cotton" Conley; children, Mike Mansfield and Lisa Nelson (Lloyd); grandchildren, Paine Mansfield, Sarah Mansfield, Luke Nelson, and Lauren Nelson; siblings, Doug Mansfield, Brenda Maloney (d. Jerry), Paul Mansfield (Beverly), and Teresa Ovington (Daren); several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her sister, Judith Bradley.
Carolyn's warm-hearted nature and joyful spirit will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love and encouragement will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Visitation for Carolyn Mae Mansfield Conley will take place at Gateway Church of God on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service honoring her life will be on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM, also at Gateway Church of God. She will be laid to rest at Machpelah Cemetery following the funeral.
