Corporal Leo A. Marcum

Corporal Leo A. Marcum, 80, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky passed away Sunday morning, January 8, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Caney, Kentucky on August 10, 1942, to the late Clyde Wilson and Wade'O Lee Pauley Allen

Leo graduated from Warfield High School and was named one of the top students in the United States.  He joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1960 thru 1964.  He completed basic training at Paris Island, Marine Corp. barracks at Eighth and I where he was a member of the Presidential Honor Guard under President Kennedy.  He was then stationed at  Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  He was twenty years old when he was accepted into officers candidate school but declined in order to attend college.  Leo graduated from Morehead State University Magna Cum Laude in three years and also from the University of Kentucky Law School Cum Laude where he was a member of Moot Court.  He entered into practice with the McCoy law firm as a partner, then on his own and practiced law for forty years.  During that time he was State Representative for six years as well as Commonwealths Attorney for six years.   Leo will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Leo is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-one beautiful years, Carol Meade Marcum; three beloved sons, Scott Marcum of Mt. Sterling, Aaron Marcum (Teresa) of Mt. Sterling and Eric Marcum (Veronica) of Yulee, Florida; six cherished grandchildren, Taylor Marcum, Zach Marcum, Brooke Marcum, Caroline Marcum, Olivia Marcum and Brett Marcum; sister, Paula Smith of Pikeville.

In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by two brothers; Danny Marcum and Greg Marcum; two sisters, Myrtle Catron and Barbara Woods.

Military service for Leo Marcum will be held at 12:30PM on Thursday January 12, 2023 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, Grayson, Kentucky.
