Donald Eugene Pontius, Sr.

Donald Eugene Pontius, Sr., 86, of Mt. Sterling passed away Friday, December  9, 2022 at his residence.  He was born in Syracuse, New York on September 18, 1936 to the late Donald Edward and Helen Hall Pontius.

Don moved to Mt. Sterling twenty-four  years ago from Connecticut.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean conflict and a former insurance underwriter.  He enjoyed traveling, vegetable gardening, building and refinishing furniture and shooting pool and playing in pool tournaments, winning several trophies in the past.   Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather brother and friend.  He will be dearly missed .

Don is survived by his beloved wife Robin Pontius of Mt. Sterling; three cherished daughters, Elizabeth Torchia Combs (Anthony) of Mt. Sterling, Madelene Funk (Chris) of Wolcott, Connecticut and Sue Murray of Groton, Vermont; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife Orlean Newton Pontius; son, Donald Eugene Pontius, Jr.; daughter, Paulette Siriani; granddaughter; Valerie May; brother, David Pontius and sister, Janet Pontius Trumble.
