Earl Wayne Gatewood

April 21, 1957 — March 2, 2020

Earl Wayne Gatewood,  62, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday, March 2, 2020 surrounded by his family at UK Hospital in Lexington.  He was born April 21, 1957 to the late Charles and Daisy Brown Gatewood.

Earl was a lifelong resident of Mt. Sterling where he was a member of High Street Christian Church. He attended Mt. Sterling High School and graduated in 1977 from the newly merged, Montgomery County High School; retired from Pentair and was a staple at Mike's Liquor.  Earl was an easy going man, generous family man and a friend to many.  He liked playing cards, bowling and was a diehard Cincinnati Bengals and UK fan.  His friends and family will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Taul Gatewood of Mt. Sterling; two sons, Keenan Kelley of Louisville and Ian Kelley of Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Courtney Taul Reed (Derrick) of Mt. Sterling; three grandchildren, Callah Reed, Kai Kelley and Ira Kelley all of Mt. Sterling; three brothers, Dwight Gatewood (Devra) of Lexington, Bruce Gatewood of Mt. Sterling and Donnie Gatewood of St. Mary, Georgia; one sister, Brenda Simpson of Newport; one step sister, Michele Groves of Louisville and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to Earl's parents he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Damani Reed and three brothers, Michael Gatewood, Watson Gatewood and Gilbert Gatewood.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 12:00PM. Visitation will be held prior from 10:00AM-12:00PM.  Both will take place at High Street Christian Church with committal to follow at Olive Hill Cemetery.  Reverend Darrell Hayden will officiate.
