Gary Gene Amburgey, 57, of Mt. Sterling, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017.  He was born July 20, 1959 in Mt. Sterling to Bobby Gene and Irene Wingate Amburgey.

Gary was a Montgomery County native, 1977 graduate of Montgomery County High School, member of Masonic Lodge #23, past County Commissioner and attended Rolling Hills church of Christ.  He was the owner and operator of Amburgey’s Auto Parts for eighteen years.  He enjoyed drag racing, going to the dirt track with his buddies, working on antique cars, camping, fishing, hunting, working in the yard, his cattle on the farm, but above all, spending time with his family.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his beloved wife of thirty-two years, Libby Blackburn Amburgey of Mt. Sterling; one son, Michael Amburgey (Jennifer) of Sharpsburg; two daughters, Jessica Pena (Scott) of Berea and Kristina Rhodes (Joey) of Mt. Sterling; his mother, Irene Wingate Amburgey; one brother, Bobby Thomas Amburgey (Pam) of Concord, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Lily Pena, Connor Rhodes, Jocelyn Rhodes, Emerson Rhodes, Kayla Donathan, Ava Donathan, Julie Donathan and Mallory Amburgey; numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gene Amburgey.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.

Funeral will be held Friday, July 14, 2017 at 12:00PM. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM with a Masonic Burial Rites Ceremony at 7:00PM.  All services will be at the Rolling Hills church of Christ.  Private family committal service following the funeral.  Bro. Jerry Carmichael and Bro. Danny Murphy will be officiating.

Pallbearers: Mike Donohew, C.D. Dyer, Greg Montgomery, Raymond Becraft, Mark Terry, Johnny Martin, Richard Johnson and Jeff Amburgey.

Honorary Pallbearers: Brenda Murphy, Donna Fortune, Floyd Arnold, Jerry Amburgey, David Amburgey, Chris Cockrell, Billy Ray Fawns, Jimmy Adams, Tom Amburgey, Danny Estes, Dave Charles, Doug Mansfield and members of Masonic Lodge #23.
