Gary Dale
Wells
Dec 18, 1954 — Sep 7, 2026
Preston
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Dale Wells, who departed this life on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the age of 71.
Born on December 18, 1954, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, to the late Edward and Monavene “Monnie” Wells, Gary was a cherished son of Bath County, a dedicated craftsman, and a loving family man. He graduated from Bath County High School and went on to become a respected drywall contractor. As the owner of Wells Drywall, he built a notable reputation, conducting business from Lexington to Ashland and becoming particularly well known for his work with Ball Homes. His meticulous nature, strong work ethic, and passion for his craft earned him the respect of many throughout the construction industry.
Gary was not only a skilled tradesman but also an enthusiastic outdoorsman, with a deep love for fishing and hunting. Whether pursuing deer, rabbit, or squirrel, he cherished the time spent outdoors and the memories made along the way.
Perhaps one of Gary’s greatest gifts was his ability to tell a story. He was a legendary storyteller who could turn even the simplest experience into something captivating. When Gary started telling a story, people listened. With his unmistakable sense of humor, infectious laughter, and a way of making nearly anything sound like a sermon, he loved making people laugh and bringing a room to life. Above all, Gary treasured the time spent with his family and friends, leaving behind countless stories, laughs, and memories that will continue to be shared for years to come.
Gary is survived by his beloved daughter, Danielle Pryor (Chad); beloved son, Spencer Wells (Lynne); grandchildren, Jacob Wells, Braxton Wells, Presley Grace Pryor, Callyn Wells, Carter Wells, and Cooper Wells; siblings, Debbie Everman, Christy Damron (Tim), and Steve Wells (Cindy); sister-in-law, Vickie Wells; and longtime partner and dear friend, Jill Adams, and her daughter, Stacey Highley.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie Wells and Ward Wells; and Jill’s son, Sam Adams, with whom Gary also shared a special bond.
A private family graveside service will take place at Kendall Springs Cemetery, with Brother Lowell Rice officiating.
