Hyman Rogers Oaks

April 14, 1936 — July 16, 2020

Hyman R Oaks of Jeffersonville, Kentucky passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on July 16, 2020.  Hyman was eighty-four years of age and was born in Middletown, Ohio to the late Stewart and Treva Mae Rogers Oaks.  He was a member of the Antioch Christian Church.

A Vietnam Veteran, Hyman joined the Marines in 1954; quickly rising through the ranks from Private First Class to Corporal.  He served as a mechanical engineer through 1962 when he was honorably discharged and ended his military career.

In the private sector, Hyman worked for South Central Bell for seventeen years holding several positions from cable lineman, splicer and foreman.  After an injury he retired and put his focus into his farm and family.  In his later years, Hyman enjoyed raising the "Best" tomatoes and vegetables in his greenhouses for the farmers markets.

Hyman is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Juanita Jones Oaks; one brother, Timothy Oaks (Loretta); one daughter,  Shelly Marshall (Tip); four sons, Hyman Oaks, Jr., Mark Oaks, Melvin Oaks (Kim) and Sherman Oaks (Sharri); ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby sister; two brothers, Yaundell Oaks and John Oaks and one grandson, Sherman Brent Oaks.

In keeping with Hyman's wishes, in lieu of funeral services, the family will be having a Celebration of Life Ceremony at the Valley Oaks Venue on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 5:00PM.  Everyone that knew Hyman has a story or two to tell; so come and remember the better days with us.
