James "Jim" William McClanahan, 88, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 18, 2023 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 6, 1935 in Mt. Sterling to the late Ledford "Red" McClanahan and Kathleen Sorrell Elam.
Jim was a Montgomery County native, member of the United Methodist Church, a Veteran of the United States Army and member of the American Legion. He was a retired butcher with Manual's Pick Pack and was a bus driver with the Montgomery County School District until 2014. He had a joking personality and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, woodworking and watching wrestling. He loved his family beyond measure and will be dearly missed by his family and friends alike.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of sixty beautiful years, Patty Troutman McClanahan; son, Michael McClanahan of Mt. Sterling; daughter, Teresa Earlywine of Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Jason McClanahan (Rebecca) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeremy McClanahan (Dana) of Mt. Sterling, Victoria Parks (Dustin) of Mt. Sterling, Sarah McClanahan (Nick James) of Lexington, Desaray Earlywine of Carlisle, Paige Earlywine of Carlisle and Caleb Lewis (Courtney) of Carlisle; four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his step-father, Homer Elam; his son, Roger McClanahan; his daughter, Charlotte McClanahan Eastman and brother, Junior McClanahan.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, April 21, 2023. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM - 7:00PM on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Both will be held at Queen Street Christian Fellowship, 10 North Queen Street Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353. Pastor Daniel Burch will be officiating. Committal will follow the funeral service at Machpelah Cemetery on Friday, April 21, 2023.
Pallbearers: Jeremy McClanahan, Caleb Lewis, Jerry Rainey, Billy Stull, Nick James, Mike Duffy, Jacob Cleaver, and Lucas Humphries.
Honorary Pallbearers: Mason "Shorty" Lee, Wendall Fraley, Hayden Myers, Tommy Conkright, Bear Jackson and Donnie Browning.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jim's memory to First United Methodist Church 846 Grassy Lick Road Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
