James "Jimmy" Lee Chandler, 70, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday afternoon, January 25, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington from complications of COVID-19. He was born in Mt. Sterling on June 16, 1950 to the late James Robert and Nancy Moore Chandler.
Jimmy was a Montgomery County native and attended church at Fellowship Christian Assembly. He was a Christian and loved the Lord, putting God and his family first. Jimmy had many interests and hobbies and was very accomplished at all of them. He loved hiking and being outdoors but his greatest love was his family and his dog Zoe. He attended Montgomery County High School and was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served for four years, 1969 - 1973, with two tours of duty on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. John F. Kennedy and other vessels in the Mediterranean Sea. Jimmy retired from Toyota Manufacturing in August 2020, after twenty-eight years of service. He previously worked at IBM for seventeen years. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and family.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Emily Scott Chandler; two sons; Jim Scott Chandler (Robyn) of Mt. Sterling and Mark Chandler of Lexington; three grandsons; Blake Chandler of Mt. Sterling, Christopher Chandler of Mt. Sterling and Colin Chandler of Mt. Sterling; one granddaughter; Morgan Chandler of Mt. Sterling; one sister; Janet Tipton (Sydney) of Mt. Sterling; one sister in law; Beth Burton (Rick)of Mt. Sterling; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his two sons; Matthew Chandler and Rob Chandler.
Funeral service will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 1:00PM. Visitation will be prior from 11:00AM - 1:00PM, both will be at Fellowship Christian Assembly. Committal will follow the funeral at Machpelah Cemetery. Pastor Harry B. Jones will be officiating.
In-lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Shepherds Shelter, 236 Bridgett Drive Mt.Sterling, KY 40353.
Pallbearers: Blake Chandler, Colin Chandler, Christopher Chandler, Jason McDonald, Jon Wood and Brandon Burton.
Honorary Pallbearers: Rick Burton, Jerry Walters, Morgan Chandler, Sydney Tipton, Don Smith and John Durr.
COVID-19 mandates will be observed including donning masks and adhering to social distancing guidelines.
