Judith Carol (Smoot) Cockrell

April 3, 1947 — October 1, 2019

Judith Carol Smoot Cockrell, 72 of Montgomery County died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at her residence  She was born in Montgomery County on April 3, 1947 to the late James and Virginia Staton Smoot.

Judith was a member of Rolling Hills Church of Christ, a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Montgomery County.  She liked to take care of others and had a servant's heart that led her to donate her time to her church family and local senior citizens events.

Judith could often be found cheering at Montgomery County High School Sports, UK Basketball and Lexington Legends Baseball.  She enjoyed studying the Bible, cooking for family gatherings, playing cards, talking on the phone, attending senior citizens events such as KY Derby parties and any reason to be with family.  Judith will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Cockrell of Mt. Sterling; sister, Gloria Gayle Tipton; step brother, Gerald Vinson (Betty) and special friend, Brenda Ralls, all of Mt. Sterling and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, Judith was preceded in death by her son, James Matthew Cockrell; daughter, Michelle Renee' Cockrell; step mother Florence Donaldson Smoot and brother-in-law Tommy Tipton.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 10:00AM.  Visitation will be Monday, October 7, 2019 from 5:00PM - 8:00PM.  Both will be held at Rolling Hills Church of Christ.  Committal to follow funeral at Machpelah Cemetery.  Brother Danny Murphy and Brother Jerry Carmichael will be officiating.

Pallbearers:  Kevin Tipton, Dennie Hawkins, Paul Collins, Jamie Compton, Kendall Vinson, Jason Vinson, Brad Farkas, Kevin Richardson and George David Donaldson.

Honorary Pallbearers:  Elders & Deacons of Rolling Hills Church of Christ, Brenda Ralls, Linda Martin, Sandy Walters, Susan Carmichael, Betty Tipton and Rena Purvis.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Rolling Hills Church of Christ.
