Marilyn Ruth Smiley Nickels, born on December 28, 1931, in Casey County, to the late John Smiley and Ruth Chappel Smiley, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at her son's residence in Georgetown, at the age of 93. Marilyn's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, devotion, and service to her family and community.

In 1937, Marilyn and her family moved from Casey County to Montgomery County, where she would spend the rest of her life. A proud graduate of
Camargo High School, she embraced the values instilled in her during her formative years, which guided her through her journey. Marilyn dedicated 35 years to her role as a sales associate at J.C. Penney, where her warm demeanor and keen sense of style left a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Marilyn is remembered as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and beloved grandmother. Her greatest joy came from caring for her family, and she cherished the moments spent with loved ones. A woman of deep faith, she was a steadfast member of the Christian community, living her life with grace and compassion.

Marilyn is survived by her loving and faithful sons, Doug Nickels and Tom Nickels (Joyce); beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother, John Smiley (Debbie); sisters, Barbara Plate and Mary Weakley.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn is preceded in death by her much loved husband, Homer Nickels; sons, Chris Nickels and Bobby Nickels; brother, Tom Smiley; sister, Jackie Moore; grandson, Tim Nickels; grandparents whom raised her, W.F. and Laura Chappel.

The family will gather privately to celebrate Marilyn's extraordinary life for a graveside service at
Machpelah Cemetery, 10:00AM, on Monday, September 22, 2025. The family asks that you don't send flowers, but instead make a contribution to your favorite charity.

As we bid farewell to Marilyn Ruth Nickels, we remember a life beautifully lived, filled with love and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all she has inspired.
