Martha Phyllis Sears Roberts, born on May 10, 1939, in Lily, Kentucky, to the late Perry Graden Sr. and Catherine Jones Sears, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 86. A beloved resident of Mt. Sterling, Martha was known not only for her unwavering spirit but also for her warmth and generosity that touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
In 1998, Martha moved to Montgomery County from Lexington, where she became an integral part of the community and a cherished member of Howard's Mill Baptist Church. With a heart as big as her culinary skills, she brought family and friends together around the kitchen table, creating memories filled with laughter and love. Martha was a gifted cook, and her dishes were a testament to her nurturing nature and the joy she found in sharing.
A dedicated homemaker and devoted wife to her husband, Robert "Bob" Roberts, Martha also took pride in her role as the "room mother" for her daughters' classrooms during their school years, embodying the qualities of a loving mother and friend. Her affection for family and fellowship, and her involvement with the Friendship International Group in Lexington showcased her desire to connect with others, reflecting her belief that no one was ever a stranger.
Martha's grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she relished every moment spent doting on them and cheering them on in their endeavors. Her spirit was contagious, and her great listening ear provided comfort to many who sought her guidance.
Martha's life reflected her heart for God, her kindness, and her commitment to caring for others. As we remember her, we celebrate the love she freely gave and the joy she brought into our lives.
Survivors include, her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Roberts; loving daughters, Katherine Roberts and Karen Grubb (Eric); grandchildren, Madison Hammons, John Robert Hammons, and Makenna Hammons; brother, Perry Sears, Jr.
In addition to her late parents, Martha is preceded in death by her brother, Harold Sears.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held on Saturday, April 4th from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Howard's Mill Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Graden Sears Endowment Fund at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College (https://ccbbc.givecloud.co/give) in Martha's memory, as she always believed in lending a helping hand to those in need. May her legacy of love and compassion live on in all of us.
