Mary Elizabeth Matthews, 95, of Lexington, died Wednesday morning, September 16, 2015 at Fountain Circle Care & Rehabilitation. She was born November 24, 1919 in Versailles.
Mary previously worked at Embry’s Clothing Store; she enjoyed fashion and helping others. She was a member of the 2nd Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, a past president of the Gardening Club and the Lexington Yacht Club in Lexington. Mary had a big personality; she loved socializing, boating, gardening, trips to the beach and watching UK basketball. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include; one daughter, Robin Hollar (Scott Reed) of Lexington; two grandchildren, Shawna Merlin and Ashley Tillinghast (Robert), all of Lexington; three great grandchildren, Aanya, Olivia and Landon Tillinghast, all of Lexington; one brother, Dudley Saunders of Louisville; two nephews, Dudley F. Saunders of Los Angeles, California and Jeremy Saunders of New York, New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Cliff Matthews; her parents, Dudley and Dolly Boone Saunders and her sister, Anna Lou Haddix.
