Melvin Frederick Gertz

Melvin "Uncle Mel" Gertz, age 81, of Winchester, passed away on February 13, 2026. Mel was born on December 25, 1944, in Celina, Ohio to the late Matilda Emma Gertz and Henry Gertz. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Stachon (d. Bruno); his nieces and nephews, Andrew Stachon (Kelley), Karen Stachon, and Brett Stachon; and his great-niece and great-nephews, Haylee Williams (Zach), Matthew Stachon, and Ryan Stachon.

Mel worked for many years as an accountant in the Chicago area before retiring to Winchester. A die-hard Chicago sports fan, his loyalty to his teams never faded. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, meticulous time keeping, dry sense of humor, and the pride he took in his family.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
