Robert Thomas "Tommy" Oakley

August 21, 1929 — May 14, 2020

Robert Thomas "Tommy" Oakley, 90, of Mt. Sterling died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at his residence.  He was born in Bath County on August 21, 1929 to the late Irvin and Elvessa McGlothin Oakley.

Tommy was a member of Rolling Hills Church of Christ and a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company and moved back to the Mt. Sterling area fourteen years ago.  Tommy was a member of Watson Lodge #32 Independent order of Odd Fellows, The Telephone Pioneers of America, Machpelah Cemetery Board of Directors, former Forest Fire Warden for Kentucky Division of Forestry and former member of Kentucky State Police Auxiliary. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, raising a garden and spending time with his family.  They will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Ruby Sutton Oakley of Mt. Sterling; four daughters, Irma Hayden (Robert) and Ginger Evans (John) both of Springfield, Ohio, Nola Dooley (David) of Mt. Sterling and Pam Mullins of Indianapolis, Indiana; one brother, Paul Oakley (Joyce) of Springfield, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren; special friend & family member, Gene Oakley (Linda) of Lexington and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Oakley; two sisters, Neila Adams and infant sister, Louise Oakley; one great grandchild and brother-in-law, Dean Adams.

Funeral service will be held Friday, May 22, 2020 at 1:00PM.  Drive thru visitation will take place prior from 11:00AM-1:00PM.  Both will take place at Rolling Hills Church of Christ and follow social distancing guidelines from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Brother Dan Murphy officiating.

Pallbearers: Tim Martin, R.D. Amburgey, Danny Spencer, David Oakley, John Evans, Wayne Thacker, David Dooley and Paul Oakley.

Honorary Pallbearers: Denny Hawkins and Ewell Wells.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Rolling Hills Bible Camp at 125 Rolling Hills Drive, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
