Ruth (Bowles) Hayes

Ruth Bowles Hayes, 86, of Mt. Sterling, died Thursday, September 17,  2020 at her daughters residence.  She was born in Mt. Sterling on March 22, 1934 to the late Henry and Alma Hammonds Bowles.

Ruth was a charter member of Reid Village Baptist Church where she devoted her life to helping others.  She had a servant’s heart like no other.  Her love for God, family and others was shown through her many missions that she started and supported through her life.  Many lives have been touched and will continue to be touched because of her.  She shared her faith with everyone she came in contact with.  She was the foundation for her family and her love for them was shown daily.  Her greatest joy was her granddaughter, Amanda Ruth, who she treasured in her heart every day.

She is survived by two daughters, Suzie Hayes and Becky Nornhold (Gene) both of Mt. Sterling; one granddaughter, Amanda Ruth Nornhold of Mt. Sterling; four sisters-in-laws Cookie Dudgeon, Judy Newkirk, Carol Webb Barnes all of Mt. Sterling and Mary Montgomery of Means and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Hayes; one son, George Thomas Hayes and one brother, Junior Bowles.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 1:00PM.  Visitation will take place Monday, September 21, 2020 from 5:00PM-9:00PM.  Both will be held at Gateway Christian Church with Pastor Jesse Kline, Pastor Todd Wiley and Pastor Bill Kilgore officiating the service.  Committal will follow the funeral service at Machpelah Cemetery.
