Stephen Whitaker

Stephen Earl Whitaker, aged 59, of Mt. Sterling, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026. He was born on November 8, 1966, in Lexington, Kentucky.

A dedicated pharmacist and business owner, Stephen's legacy will forever be intertwined with the four establishments he operated under the name Whitaker Pharmacy, Stanton Drugs, Bath Hometown Pharmacy, and Campton Discount Drugs. His passion for helping others shone through in his work, and he was deeply respected in his community for his commitment to quality care.

Stephen was not only a professional but also a true family man. He cherished his time spent with his sons, whether they were hunting, fishing, or sharing laughter during family vacations. He was known for his warmth and kindness that extended beyond family. He took great pride in nurturing friendships with his sons, mentoring and teaching them with love and care.

In addition to his professional achievements, Stephen had a rich array of personal interests. He enjoyed playing basketball, working on old cars and tractors in his cherished man cave garage, and exploring the great outdoors with his metal detector. A self-taught welder and mechanic, Stephen approached life with an enthusiasm that inspired everyone around him.

Stephen is remembered for his deep, reserved nature, meticulous attention to detail, and the unique way he embraced life. He made a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his son, Alex Whitaker; parents, Earl and Carolyn Amburgey Whitaker; brother, Greg Whitaker.

Stephen was preceded in death by his loving son, Trevor Whitaker.

Funeral services will be held at the First Church of God in Mt. Sterling on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. A visitation will take place from 10:00AM to 12:00PM, followed by the service at noon. He will be laid to rest thereafter at the Machpelah Cemetery. Pastor David Dooley will be officiating.

Stephen Earl Whitaker will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of those he loved and through the many lives he touched.
