Tammi Gaye Pugh Shrout, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on May 25, 1965, in Louisville, Tammi moved to Mt. Sterling after marrying Julian and touched the lives of many throughout her journey.
Tammi's academic journey began at Morehead State University, where she earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, paving the way for a remarkable career in education. Although she initially worked as an x-ray technician, Tammi's true calling emerged later in life when she returned to school in her 40s to fulfill her passion for teaching. As an 8th grade science teacher at McNabb Middle School, she inspired her students with her bold and nurturing approach, fostering a love for learning that many would carry with them long after leaving her classroom.
A faithful member of the Rolling Hills Church of Christ, Tammi was deeply committed to her community and her faith. She was known for her compassionate spirit and honest demeanor, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand to those in need.
Tammi had a zest for life, reveling in her love for travel, especially her trips to the beach and the majestic mountains of Colorado. Whether tending to her flower beds or enjoying quiet moments on her porch, she found joy in the simple pleasures of nature.
Above all, her family was her greatest treasure. As a devoted wife of 39 years to her husband, Julian Shrout, and a loving mother to her children, Emily Rhodes (Jason) and Haley Bailey (Dan), she earned the affectionate titles of "Grammy" and "Riri" from her adoring grandchildren, Caleb Rhodes, Cadence Rhodes and Ford Rhodes, who were truly the apple of her eye. Also survived by her loving parents, Doug and JoAnn Brewer Pugh; brother, Jody Pugh (Melanie); nieces and nephews, Gloria Donithan (Ricky), Dr. Max Shrout (Amanda), Lexi Shepherd (Graham), Caroline Donithan (Ty DeFilippo) Ethan Pugh, Avery Pugh, and Isabel Shrout; her special friends, Beach Girls.
Visitation services will be held at Rolling Hills Church of Christ on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. The funeral service will take place the following morning, Friday, December 12, 2025, at 10:00AM, also at Rolling Hills Church of Christ. Following the service, Tammi will be laid to rest at Machpelah Cemetery. Bro. Dan Murphy and Bro. Jerry Carmichael will be officiating.
