Thomas Gerald Tipton, 83, of Mt. Sterling, died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at UK Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1933 in Montgomery County to the late Bessie Amburgey and Troy Tipton.
Thomas is a Montgomery County native, member of the Rolling Hills Church of Christ, retired farmer and owner of Tipton Equipment Company and a United States Army veteran. He enjoyed farming; cattle, tobacco, hay and corn. Thomas also enjoyed sending time in Florida, fishing, camping, antique tractors and spending time with family. He will be dearly missed by his family, church family and friends.
Survivors include; his beloved wife Gayle Smoot Tipton of Mt. Sterling; four children, Tracy Collins (Paul) of Florence, Melodie Hawkins (Dennie), Karen Compton (James) and Kevin Tipton (Treva), all of Mt. Sterling; eleven grandchildren, Justin Branham (Ariel) of Connecticut, James Collins of Frankfort, Joshua Collins of Florence, Cole Tipton, Macey Tipton, Emily Hawkins Given (Paul Davis), Chelsea Marie Hawkins, Lauren Compton High (Dustin), Paige Compton Hecker (Cody), all of Mt. Sterling, Shane Hawkins of Lexington and Jason Hawkins of Columbia, Kentucky; two great grandchildren, Jaxon High and Hendrix High, both of Mt. Sterling; one brother, Robert Tipton (Judy) of Ocean Isle, North Carolina; three sisters, Frances Estes, Lou Alice Blevins and JoAnn Issac (Cordell), all of Mt. Sterling; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Tipton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to: Rolling Hills Church of Christ Camp or Building Fund.
Brother Dan Murphy, Bro. Jerry Carmichael and Robert Tipton will be officiating.
