Vernon Eugene Ferguson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Lexington at the VA Medical Center, at the age of 86. Born on November 8, 1939, in Frenchburg, Kentucky, to the late Joe and Ethel Back Ferguson. He lived a life filled with hard work, love, and cherished moments.

Vernon was a proud member of the United States Army, dedicating his early years to serving his country. After his service, he made a name for himself in the road construction industry, working tirelessly under the Local 181 union. His strong work ethic and determination reflected the values he held dear throughout his life.

In 1977, Vernon moved to Montgomery County from Bourbon County, where he embraced a new chapter surrounded by a community he came to love. An avid outdoorsman, he found great joy in fishing and hunting, particularly rabbit and squirrel hunts that often turned into treasured family outings. Vernon's passion for antiquing and attending auctions showcased his appreciation for history and craftsmanship, which he often shared with his loved ones.

Vernon is survived by his beloved son, Chad Ferguson (Carla); grandchildren, Taylor Ferguson and Brittany Abner (Jacob George); sister, Sharon Taylor (Bob Rice); niece, Marlene Abner; nephew, Joe McCarty (Gina). His legacy of love and family will continue to inspire those who knew him.

In addition to his late parents, Vernon is preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Ferguson and Pauline McCarty and nephew, Michael McCarty.

Reflecting on his life, Vernon will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, his steadfast faith as a Christian, and the kindness he extended to all.
