Walter "Scott" Shoemaker, Jr., 85, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday morning, October 9, 2017 in Lexington, Kentucky.  He was born March 5, 1932 in Mt. Sterling to the late Walter Scott Sr. and Audie Mae Vice Shoemaker.

Scott was a life-long resident of Montgomery County,  of the Baptist faith, a volunteer fireman,  retired from the Army Depot and a United States Korean War Air Force veteran.  He enjoyed fishing, coaching all sports in recreation league, playing cards and most of, being a loyal husband and spending time with his family.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include; one son, Tony Shoemaker (Elizabeth) of Lexington; two daughters, Terri Back (Doug) and Vicki Highley, both of Mt. Sterling; three grandchildren, Wendy Rogers (Eddie) of Mt. Sterling, Scottie Highley (Leslie) of Mt. Sterling and Trey Shoemaker of Louisville; three great grandchildren, Gabe Rogers, Jacob Highley and Hunter Highley, all of Mt. Sterling; two brothers, Bill Shoemaker (Ruth Ann) and Harry Bushy Shoemaker, both of Mt. Sterling; one sister, Eunice Whalen of Mayslick; special friends, Virgie Wingate (Bobby) of Ohio, Ella Logdon and Betty Washington, both of Lexington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy McCracken Shoemaker; two sisters, Betty Jane Roberts and Lois Ann Shoemaker and his son-in-law, C.D. Highley.

Graveside service will be Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10:00AM at Machpelah Cemetery's Chapel, Visitation will be prior from 9:30AM to 10:00AM.  Chaplain Diane Munoz and Pastor Glenn Emery will be officiating.
