Matthew "Matt" Allan Reffitt, a beloved member of the Mount Sterling community known for his dedication to his work as a mechanic, passed away on October 13, 2023, at the age of 51. Matthew was born on June 5, 1972, in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late George Reffitt, Sr. and Margaret Wechter Crump and later made Mount Sterling, Kentucky, his home.
A skilled auto mechanic, Matt built a reputation for his expertise and commitment to his craft. Through his self-employed business, he served countless customers in Mount Sterling and the surrounding counties, offering reliable and quality service. His passion for mechanics was evident in every project he undertook, and his skills made a lasting impact on the community.
Beyond his profession, Matt was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and joy in fishing and hunting. He found great thrill in participating in demolition derbies, which allowed him to channel his adventurous spirit. Matt's enthusiasm for these activities endeared him to many, and he formed meaningful connections and lasting friendships within these communities.
Matt's most cherished role was that of a family man. He leaves behind his beloved spouse, Nora Reffitt; daughter, Casi Blevins; son, Cody Centers (Elizabeth), daughter's, Lily Reffitt, Kayla Dillion (Dakota) and Autumn Caudill; siblings, Lisa Gerrard, George Reffitt, Jr. (Debbie) and Jennifer Carter (Eric); and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Matt's devotion to his family was unwavering, and he took great pride in his role as a loving husband, father and brother. His big heart and willingness to help others were admirable traits, and his generosity extended beyond his immediate family. Matt had a natural ability to make people feel welcome and loved, never meeting a stranger.
In addition to Matt’s parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Turner Cockerham.
As we reflect on Matt's life, let us remember the joy he brought to those around him. His dedication to his work, his love for the outdoors, and his unwavering commitment to his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
